This 6-day tour will take in the major sites of the battlefields of Operation Market Garden in the Netherlands and give us chance to explore the history of the second World War.

Your Guide

Hello, I am Andy Oliver, your guide.

I am now retired from 22 years in the military service which took me around the world and the battlefields of the Western Front and Far East.

I have studied, toured, and guided on the Western Front battlefields for the last few years since retiring from the Armed Forces. I have built up an extensive knowledge of the Great War and I look forward to sharing it with you.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - Meet and greet and overnight ferry over to Rotterdam

Meet up at convenient location for you at Hull train station or P&O Ferry terminal at King George Docks in Hull
Check into the P&O Ferries, Hull for the overnight ferry to Rotterdam

Day 2 - Making our way to Eindhoven and Nijmegen

After breakfast on the ferry, we make our way to Joe’s bridge, Lommel, Belgium were 30 Corps started Operation Market Garden
We visit the bridge at Son which was taken by US 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles)
Visit the Wings of Liberation Museum near Eindhoven
Take in the bridge at Grave which was taken by US 82nd Airborne Division
Head to the Canadian cemetery at Groesbeek and visit the US 82nd Airborne Memorial at Beek
We finish of the day visiting the bridge at Nijmegen
Check into the Blue hotel in Nijmegen for a one-night stay

Day 3 - Battle for Arnhem and Oosterbeek

After a good breakfast we make our way to the Airborne Memorial at Ginkelse Heide 1st BR Airborne Division landing zones
Visit the Airborne cemetery at Oosterbeek and take in the Airborne Memorial
We visit the Airborne Museum at Hartenstein House in Oosterbeek
Head to the Airborne Memorial near the Bridge in Arnhem
We finish of the day visiting John Frost Bridge in Arnhem and discuss what happened to 745 men under his command
Check into the Holiday Inn Express hotel in Arnhem for a one-night stay

Day 4 - Make our way to Amsterdam

After a good breakfast we make our way to Amsterdam and visit the Anne Frank Museum
We visit the Royal Palace in the heart of Amsterdam Centre
Visit the sights of the old part of Amsterdam and stop off in the Café ‘Jolly Old Sailor’
Check into the hotel Jakarta in Amsterdam, for a one-night stay

Day 5 - Sightseeing in Amsterdam and return overnight

After a good breakfast we make our way back towards home, but before we leave Amsterdam, you can do some more shopping and sightseeing on your own time before returning to Rotterdam
Check into the P&O Ferries, Rotterdam for the overnight ferry to Hull

Day 6 - Drop off and return home

Return to King George Docks, Hull. You can be dropped off at Hull train station for onward travel home if required
Drop off at a convenient location for you in the Hull area if required
