This 6-day tour will take in the major sites of the Battle of the Bulge and the Rhine crossings into Germany and give us chance to explore the history of the second World War.
With a maximum of 15 guests, you will have a truly personalised trip, getting the most from your own personal guide and meeting others that are passionate about World War 2 remembrance.
Your Guide
Hello, I am Andy Oliver, your guide.
I am now retired from 22 years in the military service which took me around the world and the battlefields of the Western Front and Far East.
I have studied, toured, and guided on the Western Front battlefields for the last few years since retiring from the Armed Forces. I have built up an extensive knowledge of the Great War and I look forward to sharing it with you.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1 - Meet and greet and overnight ferry over to Rotterdam
- Meet up at convenient location for you at Hull train station or P&O Ferry terminal at King George Docks in Hull
- Check into the P&O Ferries, Hull for the overnight ferry to Rotterdam
Day 2 - Making our way down to Malmedy
- After breakfast on the ferry, we make our way down to the Woodland spot where the borders of the Netherlands, Germany & Belgium converge at the Three Country Point Monument
- We visit Henri – Chapelle American Cemetery, were the Remains of 7,992 US soldiers interred in this cemetery
- We take in the December 44 Museum in La Gleize
- We finish of the day visiting the Malmedy Massacre Memorial near Malmedy which commemorates the American soldiers that were executed by the SS units
- Check into the Le Val d Ambleve hotel in Stavelot for a one-night stay
Day 3 - Band of Brothers – Bastogne
- After a good breakfast we make our way to the US 101st Airborne Museum in Bastogne
- Visit “Band of Brothers” (506) Easy Company foxholes near the town of Bastogne
- We visit the Reconge German cemetery, before we head to the Easy Company Monument
- Head to the US Memorial for the Wereth 11, where 11 US soldiers were executed.
- We visit the Starting point of the German Ardennes Offensive – German American memorial site
- We then take in the bridge at Remagen the location of the US crossing of the Rhine in March 1945
- We finish of the day visiting the Commonwealth War Graves near Cologne
- Check into the Marriott hotel in Cologne for a one-night stay
Day 4 - Crossing the Rhine
- After a good breakfast we start the day with the sights of Cologne
- We visit the Rhine which is 400 yards wide at the Wesel crossing point and had to defeat the river and the heavy German fortifications
- Visit the area around the village of Hamminkeln where two Airborne Divisions were tasked with taking the Diersfordter Wald, a forest that overlooked the Rhine
- Check into the Holiday Inn Express hotel in Arnhem for a one-night stay
Day 5 - Arnhem and Oosterbeek
- After a final good breakfast, we make our way back towards home, but before we leave Arnhem, we pay our respects to the fallen at the Airborne War cemetery at Oosterbeek
- We visit the Hartenstein Airborne Museum, before making our way to Rotterdam
- We finish the day in Rotterdam for more sightseeing, and shopping on your own before returning to P&O Ferries, Rotterdam
- Check into the P&O Ferries, Rotterdam for the overnight ferry to Hull
Day 6 - Drop off and return home
- Return to King George Docks, Hull. You can be dropped off at Hull train station for onward travel home if required
- Drop off at a convenient location for you in the Hull area if required
